PTSD is a mental illness that has been on the rise that many patients are seeking relief from. Originally, stemming mostly from post-war and violent related issues, many patients are veterans and active duty military, however, PTSD can emanate from a multitude chattels like a bad car crash to domestic abuse or an unexpected death of a loved one. It is a complicated illness to combat because there are many factors that play a role in the uncomfortableness and vulnerability that patients feel such as high levels of anxiety and depression. To make it even more complicated there are an array of triggers that patients experience that make PTSD symptoms kick in at various points throughout the month week or even day and everybody's reasons are different.
In the past couple of decades, PTSD has mostly been treated with therapy and perception pills. While therapy can definitely help, prescription pills really only benefit the patient in the short term but can cause damage and addiction in the long run. While there are many different "symptoms" related to PTSD - some including outbursts of anger, trouble sleeping, and all around emotional disconnect, it is difficult to create an all-in-one synthetic medicine that can relieve these different ailments at once without harmful side effects.
Using CBD to treat PTSD is a relatively new concept, but has shown a lot of progress thus far. The way full spectrum CBD works with the endocannabinoid system allows the human body to naturally combat and enhance certain receptors in our systems that can greatly improve a lot of the symptoms associated with PTSD. CBD has been known to lower anxiety and lessen depression which are two major contributors to many patients suffering from this disorder. CBD is also a great natural sleep remedy, a problem that the majority of people suffering from PTSD face. There have also been tests conducted that prove CBD has the ability to reduce what is referred to as "fear memory", one of the main causes of triggering PTSD. "By regulating mesolimbic [reward pathway] activity and modulate the formation of associative emotional memories” CBD can drastically reduce fear memory symptoms. In other words, CBD has the potential to allow, say, a veteran suffering from PTSD, to watch fireworks or experience loud noises without triggering an emotional response.
Finally, one of the other major benefits that CBD provides is a nonaddictive, nonharmful way that can consistently be used to treat symptoms, allowing patients to live fully and healthily which out the harmful side effects.
